Ottawa Ontario Provincial Police have arrested an 18-year-old they believe was involved in a homicide in Renfrew County, located west of Ottawa, on Wednesday night.

(Teghan Beaudette/CBC) On Nov. 30, 2023, Trey Gagnon entered a guilty plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter and received a sentence of 12 years in prison from Ontario Court Justice Jeffery Richardson. After considering time already served while awaiting trial, he has about another 10.5 years left to serve.
Ontario Provincial Police say they have apprehended a man suspected of being involved in a homicide in Renfrew County west of Ottawa on Wednesday night.
In a press release issued Thursday morning, Killaloe OPP stated they were searching for Trey Gagnon, an 18-year-old from Laurentian Valley Township.
The OPP tweeted around 1:30 p. m. that he had been located and taken into custody. He faced charges including second-degree murder.
Officers responded to reports at a home in Eganville within the Township of Bonnechere Valley just before 9 p. m. on Wednesday and discovered someone deceased, according to the news release.
No additional details about the victim were provided. After Gagnon’s arrest, OPP assured that there was no ongoing risk to public safety.
The Renfrew County District School Board noted that four schools were placed on “hold and secure,” but this status was lifted around 11:25 a. m.
Eganville is approximately 130 kilometers west of downtown Ottawa.
