The name may have changed, but the party remains: CBC reports that Progressive Conservative Billy Denault has claimed victory in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke.

This riding covers Renfrew County along with a section of the District of Nipissing that includes Madawaska, Whitney, and eastern Algonquin Park. It also features Garrison Petawawa and Pikwàkanagàn.

John Yakabuski from the PC party served as MPP here since 2003, winning his first election by just 645 votes against the Liberals, before expanding his lead to at least 15,000 votes in later elections.

Yakabuski chose not to run again. Six candidates competed for the position.

Denault is a town councillor from Arnprior and has experience in accounting and financial management. Approximately 55 percent of local voters backed him, giving him a margin of about 14,500 votes over the Liberals.
