announces that the renamed eastern Ontario riding of Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke has re-elected Conservative Cheryl Gallant.
This is one of only two local ridings that have maintained their boundaries through a redistribution, although it does have a new name from its previous designation as Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke.
The residents here voted Liberal until Cheryl Gallant changed things for the Canadian Alliance back in 2000. She’s held the seat ever since.
The now nine-time election winner used to help run a small family business and worked on economic development initiatives in Pembroke.
The routine independent boundary review after the 2021 census decided it was more appropriate to highlight the Algonquin Anishinābe history in this area rather than acknowledge its small portion of Nipissing District.
This riding mainly consists of Renfrew County and includes Garrison Petawawa and Pikwàkanagàn.
Seven candidates participated this time around. Liberal Cyndi Mills finished second after placing third for her party in 2021.
