After her 2008 death to brain cancer at age 13, family and friends of the former Saugeen Storm player Caitlyn Cobean began to honour her annually with the tournament designed as a fun fundraiser.
The 21st annual tournament hosted by the Storm featured 34 teams in four divisions – U11, I13, U15 and U18 – and was a “wonderful weekend of great hockey, once the weather cleared,” tournament director Michelle McGregor said in a Dec. 16 telephone interview.
Organizers were forced to cancel the first two hours of play on Dec.13 forcing the loss of two U11 games, but they rescheduled four of the U13 affected games. Along with The Plex, tournament play took place in Southampton and Tiverton.
“All the team had really good goaltending all weekend and it was a really good, high calibre of hockey – they were all really good athletes,” McGregor said.
With a tie, two wins and a loss, the U11 C Storm Remax team was eliminated by Wingham 86ers in the semifinal.

The Caitlyn Cobean Community Crusaders staged two pancake breakfasts to raise money for Tara “Boom” Houston Children’s Basis to enhance the lives of households whose youngsters face life -threatening diseases.
