After a long wait and several deadline extensions, the future of the Cedar Crescent Village project in Port Elgin is now uncertain.

The Town of Saugeen Shores has announced it’s preparing to take legal action that could lead to ending the development’s lease.

In a statement on Monday, March 2, 2026, the Town mentioned it has collaborated closely with developer 2706913 Ontario Inc. to push the waterfront project forward. The Council had previously extended deadlines, including moving the completion date to September 2026, after issuing building permits and approving changes meant to keep construction progressing.

However, the Town states that a significant construction milestone set for February 2 was not achieved, and progress has not met expectations outlined in the project agreements. After a thorough review, the municipality is now taking steps to enforce its rights under the lease and servicing agreements.

Cedar Crescent Village was planned as a key part of the community’s waterfront master plan, envisioned as a year-round hub featuring retail options, food services, and public gathering areas near Port Elgin’s Main Beach. Permits for both phases were granted in 2023, raising hopes that this long-discussed development would finally come to fruition.

With court proceedings likely ahead, the Town indicates it can’t share much publicly and is asking residents for patience as this situation develops.
