Canada’s top goalkeeper for the men’s national soccer team has just scored his first title as the 2025 Major League Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year.

Dayne St. Clair – hailing from Pickering, Ontario – received the accolade after a stellar season where he achieved ten shutouts and allowed only 30 goals in 30 appearances for Minnesota United, who are looking to advance tonight against Atlanta in the first round of the MLS playoffs.

St. Clair becomes only the second Canadian to win this award, following Pat Onstad, who took it home in 2003 with San Jose and again in 2005 with Houston.

As he competes with Maxime Crepeau for the top goalie position ahead of next year’s World Cup, St. Clair surpassed New York City FC’s Matt Freese and Vancouver Whitecaps’ Yohei Takaoka, securing 29.4 percent of the votes.

When informed about his win on the team’s charter flight, St. Clair expressed gratitude towards his teammates, stating that a solid defense relies on “everyone in front of me playing great.”

Canada kicks off its World Cup journey on June 12 in Toronto.
