Police are offering a $25K reward for information about the killer of the casino guard. The suspect, Tyjae Nosworthy-Smith, has been evading authorities since October 2023. Ferdinand’s wife is calling on the community to assist in finding him.

Authorities are actively searching for the individual involved in the deadly shooting of a security guard at Ontario’s Pickering Casino Resort in 2023.

Michael Ferdinand, aged 34, was shot while working at the casino during the early hours of October 9, 2023. He had been employed there for just seven months before his tragic death.

The police identified the suspect as Tyjae Nosworthy-Smith on November 7 that year and he has been on the run ever since.

At a press conference held by Durham Regional Police on Monday, officials announced a $25K reward for any information that could lead to his capture. The suspect is also known as Baby2 and has shared music online while remaining at large.

“Get counsel. Turn yourself in,” Det.-Sgt. Erik Mamers stated. “There’s a Canada-wide warrant out for his arrest related to second-degree murder charges and he’s considered armed and dangerous.”

‘Behind the Timeline’

Nosworthy Smith was just 17 when the crime occurred; he’s described as a Black male standing at about five feet eight inches tall and weighing approximately 110 pounds with a tattoo located on his left elbow. Investigators believe he may have connections to areas like Driftwood community, Jane and Finch area and Brampton.

An image of Nosworthy Smith was briefly shown during the news conference. According to Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act, suspects under age eighteen cannot be publicly identified without court approval; hence this image can only be circulated by police for five days.

Mamers mentioned that they were aware of videos posted online by the suspect since the incident took place and that they are “taking steps with judicial authorizations to try to track him down.”

“Unfortunately, once a video is posted we fall behind in tracking where he might be,” Mamers added. “He maintains an active presence on social media.”

‘Need for Truth’

Mara Ferdinand made an emotional appeal directly to those who might know where her husband’s killer is hiding.

“We-Mike’s family-are asking those protecting Tyjae to remember that my husband lost his life. Our family continues dealing with an irreplaceable loss and we’re asking for help from our community not out of anger but from a need for truth and accountability.”

“Mike loved Christmas… This will mark our third Christmas without Mike and still there hasn’t been any justice,” she expressed.
