Durham Regional Police are searching for two men who were in a stolen car that crashed into two parked vehicles while trying to escape from officers during a bold midday incident.

The police received a call about the stolen vehicle at 1 p. m. after the owner spotted it in the parking lot of the Pickering City Centre shopping mall and alerted authorities.

When officers arrived and approached, the suspects drove off, going over a sidewalk and leaving the parking area at a “high rate of speed.”

Due to concerns for public safety, police stated that they did not pursue the vehicle. While escaping, the stolen car hit two parked cars.

A little later, police got reports that this same vehicle had mounted a curb on Fieldlight Boulevard and became disabled. The two suspects ran away on foot before police could arrive.

Authorities established a perimeter and deployed the DRPS K9 unit to search the area, but they could not locate the two men.

The suspects were described as white males dressed entirely in black clothing.

The DRPS Project Attire Auto Theft Unit has been informed and is assisting with this investigation.

If anyone has information regarding this incident, please contact Det. Brown of Project Attire at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 7827.

You can also provide anonymous tips to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www. durhamregionalcrimestoppers. ca
