4 items at facility are scheduled for main refurbishment

Ontario Energy Technology’s (OPG) Pickering-4 nuclear energy plant was completely shut down as deliberate on the finish of 2024, bringing the variety of industrial nuclear vegetation in operation in Canada to 18.

OPG is planning to refurbish the 4 items, marking a significant turnaround for the power, which was scheduled to shut by 2025.
The CNSC approval means the items can proceed in operation till that refurbishment begins.
OPG stated final 12 months it was persevering with to advance planning for the refurbishment, which will likely be full by the mid-2030s and will see the items function for an additional 30 years or extra.
OPG had supposed to start the refurbishment venture in 2024 with engineering and design work and securing long-lead elements. OPG’s timeline envisages placing your complete station layup in 2026 in order that refurbishment can start.
