ONTARIO-The Ontario authorities has accepted Ontario Energy Era’s (OPG) plan to proceed with the Challenge Definition Part, the following step towards refurbishing Pickering Nuclear Producing Station’s “B” items to safe extra energy and create 1000’s of jobs throughout the province.

As a part of the preparation for refurbishment, the federal government has licensed OPG to signal a $2.1 billion contract with CanAtom for early engineering and procurement to organize for the execution of the Retube Feeder and Boiler Alternative Program, creating greater than 2,400 jobs throughout the province.

“The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station has powered cities and towns across Ontario with affordable, reliable and zero-emissions electricity for more than fifty years, supporting thousands of jobs in the process,” stated Stephen Lecce, Minister of Vitality and Electrification. “Under the leadership of Premier Ford, our government is focused on delivering affordable energy, while we stand firm against the federal carbon tax. This refurbishment would protect those good paying jobs and provide the affordable and reliable power our province will need for decades to come.”

As soon as refurbished, Pickering would produce greater than 2,000 megawatts (MW) of electrical energy, equal to powering two million properties, to assist meet rising demand, pushed by electrification and the province’s surging financial development. Based mostly on OPG’s preliminary schedule, the refurbishment is anticipated to be accomplished by the mid-2030s.
