A brand new ‘all-wheels’ skatepark is set to open in Pickering this summer. This community space will cater to everyone, regardless of age or skill level, allowing for skateboarding, scootering, BMX biking, and inline skating.
The impressive 12,000 sq. ft. facility will be located in the hydro corridor off Kingston Road, just north of Diana, Princess of Wales Park.
Once it’s completed this summer, the existing skateboard park at Princess of Wales-serving the area for three decades and now reaching its limit-will be taken down and the site restored.
The city recognized the need for a new community-sized skateboard park back in 2017 (as part of its Skateboard Park Strategy), and last September they approved Radius Skateparks Inc.’s proposal for designing and building it.
This project is expected to cost over $1 million (including HST), with the proposal amount being $849,579 (net HST) along with a contingency fund and other related expenses.
Funding will come from the Parks Capital Budget and will require some money to be transferred from reserves.
Radius Skateparks has been creating skateparks across Canada and around the world since 2005.
