If you noticed a little shake late Tuesday night, you weren’t imagining it, especially if you were in Southern Ontario.

Earthquakes Canada recorded a magnitude 3.7 quake just north of Toronto shortly before 11:00 p. m. Eastern Time.

The tremor was reported to be near the community of Orillia and happened at a depth of five kilometres.

The site’s “Did you feel it?” link received over 2,000 responses from people who felt the rumble, reaching as far west as Kitchener, through Toronto, east to Belleville, and down south to Niagara Falls.

There hasn’t been any news on damage or injuries yet, but statistics show that this area has had two similar-sized earthquakes in the past 25 years.

People took to social media to comment that this quake adds to the list of challenges for the region, which has already faced severe snow and cold recently.

This report by The Canadian Press was first January 28, 2026.
