How does this work?

The current industrial blitz and rising recognition of fireside blankets has the Ontario Fireplace Marshall and native hearth providers involved concerning the merchandise giving residents a “false sense of security” about their effectiveness in hearth security.

Whereas hearth blankets have been marketed as an efficient technique to extinguish flames – corresponding to these from stovetop fires – the Workplace of the Fireplace Marshal doesn’t endorse them for client use, advising that they need to solely be utilized by educated professionals. At present, there aren’t any Canadian security requirements that apply to fireplace blankets.

Pickering Fireplace Chief Steve Boyd is reminding residents to prioritize “established and proven” hearth security practices to guard themselves.

“Pickering Fire Services fully supports the Office of the Fire Marshal’s recommendation that fire blankets are not intended for consumer use,” Boyd stated. “While these products may appear to offer a convenient solution, they can inadvertently create a false sense of security, leading people to rely on unsafe fire safety practices during an emergency. We strongly encourage residents to prioritize proven, time-tested fire protection measures that have been shown to save lives.”
