With 24 teams lined up, the Trailers Plus Ontario Legend Car Series – presented by Kevin Ryan Automotive – kicked off on Saturday, May 31st at Peterborough Speedway for the first time in the 2025 season.
Young driver Keaton Pipe and Cole Mc Fadden started on the front row for the 25-lap feature. Pipe grabbed the early lead but soon gave it up to Wes Cuthbertson, who saw hometown favorite Dawson Drimmie take over as the race’s third leader within just four laps.
A yellow flag waved due to an incident in turn three after five laps, slowing down the pace of the race. Drimmie took charge again on the restart. The driver of the No. 66 car held onto first place until reigning champion Mitch Wright used lapped traffic to take back control with 18 laps gone.
An additional caution with only a few laps left brought everyone back together, as a multi-car pileup on the frontstretch resulted in a red flag. Several cars were done for the night because of this crash, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Wright had a great restart and secured his win ahead of Wes Cuthbertson, Dawson Drimmie, Pipe and Cole Mc Fadden. Gibson Baker, Nick Portt, Jake Spencer-Walt, Robbie Sikes and Joe Sherman rounded out the top-10 finishers. Matt Thompson, Chase Stievenart, John Milwain, Andrew Mc Fadden, Nathan Killins, Mark Mc Donald, Rob Eggleton, Caleb Drimmie, Hailey Mc Nicol, Mackenzie Milwain, Parker Traves, Nathan Huffman, Joshua Milwain and Mark Griffin completed that night’s results.
With an eighth-place finish in the main event, Jake Spencer-Walt earned recognition as JF Enterprises Rookie of the Race. Spencer-Walt along with Griffin, Wright and Dawson Drimmie claimed wins in their qualifying heats for Ontario Legend Car Series.
The next event on this year’s schedule is set for Saturday June 14th at Sunset Speedway before they return to Peterborough for Double Toonie/Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday June 28th.
