The Lufthansa Group – the parent company of Lufthansa Airlines – has announced changes that will impact many employees in Ontario.

Local reports indicate that the airline plans to close its Peterborough call centre by May next year.

This centre, located at 1900 Fisher Drive, currently offers multilingual customer service in six different languages.

It also takes care of various support tasks, including General Reservations, Miles & More, Group Sales, and Ticketing, as stated on the company’s website.

In a statement to the , senior manager of corporate communications Christina Semmel said “increasing automation, advanced self-service technologies, and improved operational performance at Lufthansa Group Airlines will ensure long-term profitability and sustainable adapting operations within its global network.”

The Examiner reports that around 300 jobs will be affected by this closure.

The call centre is operated by the Lufthansa Group in Germany. Peterborough is one of six locations – and it’s the only one in North America – along with Berlin, Brno, Cape Town, Manila and Turkey.

Lufthansa is collaborating with impacted employees to assist them in transitioning to other job opportunities, Semmel informed local news outlet ptbocanada. com.
