Lakelands Public Health has assured that their systems, which store infectious disease and other sensitive information, are secure following a cyberattack last month.
The Ontario public health unit announced on Tuesday that they are collaborating with a top cybersecurity company to restore their systems. This health unit provides services to Peterborough city and county, Northumberland and Haliburton counties, Kawartha Lakes, as well as the First Nations of Curve Lake and Alderville.

Dr. Thomas Piggott, medical officer of health and CEO of Lakelands Public Health, stated in the release that the agency aims to take a “proactive approach” in response to the cyberattack.

“Our main focus during this event is safeguarding the information entrusted to us while ensuring continuity of essential public health services,” he added.
