PETERBOROUGH-The OPP has arrested and charged a member of the Peterborough Police Service regarding an investigation that started earlier this 12 months.
On September 7, 27-year-old Mackenzie Rogers of Peterborough was arrested and charged with Breach of belief, opposite to part 122 of the Prison Code – two counts and Possession of property obtained by crime – over $5000, opposite to part 354(1) of the Prison Code. Rogers is a seven 12 months veteran of the police service.
On March 18, 2024, the Chief of the Peterborough Police Service requested that the OPP examine allegations involving a Peterborough Police Service member. The investigation was commenced beneath the path of the OPP Prison Investigation Department.
Peterborough Police Chief Betts stated “As Chief of Police, this is difficult and disappointing news to have to share with the community. I also recognize that this is an extremely difficult day for everyone in our Organization, and for the community to learn that someone in a position of trust has been arrested and charged criminally. I want the public to know that these types of situations are taken seriously and that at this time the Officer has been suspended with pay in accordance with the provisions of the Community Safety and Policing Act. As this moves through the Court process, that status may be re-evaluated. I am fully cognizant that this Officer has not been convicted of the alleged crimes and I am committed to ensuring the wellbeing of all of our members and will have programs in place to assist as needed.”
The accused was launched from custody and is scheduled to look earlier than the Ontario Court docket of Justice in Peterborough on October 8, 2024.
