In the past week, most new measles cases in Ontario were reported from a well-known summer destination.
Public Health Ontario has noted 32 new measles cases, with 19 of those occurring in Huron Perth.
This public health unit, located just west of Kitchener, includes Stratford, famous for its annual theatre festival, as well as Lake Huron beach towns like Clinton and Goderich.
This brings the total number of cases in Ontario to 2,276 since an outbreak began last fall.
Experts in public health have suggested a cautious sense of optimism regarding the decrease in case counts as the highly contagious disease fluctuates.
Alberta is also facing an outbreak, recording a total of 1,340 cases since March. This week it exceeded the United States’ case numbers.
Additionally, New Brunswick declared a measles outbreak this week and has confirmed five cases in its south-central area.
