The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that a 22-year-old man from Ashton lost his life Wednesday afternoon when his vehicle crossed into oncoming lanes on Highway 7 and crashed into a tractor-trailer.
According to a news release, emergency services were dispatched to the highway close to Old Brooke Road in Tay Valley Township around 1:30 p. m.
The victim, whose name hasn’t been released, was the sole occupant of his car and was declared dead at the scene, police stated. Fortunately, the truck driver sustained no serious injuries.
OPP mentioned they are still looking into the circumstances surrounding the crash, which took place roughly 15 kilometers west of Perth and about 85 kilometers southwest of downtown Ottawa.
Ashton lies along the boundary between rural southwest Ottawa and Beckwith Township.
