Rachael Wilson, a local leader in the non-profit world and well-known for guiding the Ottawa Food Bank during the pandemic, is set to become the president and CEO of United Way East Ontario starting next year.

With 25 years of experience in the non-profit sector, Wilson has held various positions at organizations like The Ottawa Hospital Foundation, National Arts Centre, and the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation. She began her journey with the Ottawa Food Bank in 2016 as director of communications and development before becoming CEO in 2020.

During her time leading the food bank, Wilson also played a key role in a city-wide strategy to reduce poverty alongside the City of Ottawa, United Way East Ontario, and partners from housing, employment, social services, and food systems.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Wilson expressed her excitement about joining United Way East Ontario “at a time when our communities are counting on us to uncover and address the systemic challenges affecting everyday life.”

“Whether it’s housing, financial stability, mental wellbeing, or community-building, United Way offers hope for a future where everyone can reach their full potential,” she said. “I am excited to lead this organization as we work to find long-term solutions to these critical issues and more.”

Thom Donnelly, chair of the board of directors at United Way East Ontario, noted in the release that Wilson’s extensive experience and recognized leadership will be invaluable.

“Most importantly, she is someone who has driven meaningful impact in our communities – showing strong leadership on the critical issues facing our region,” said Donnelly. “Rachael cares deeply about improving lives by tackling tough problems at their roots and she brings both credibility and experience to make it happen.”

The president and CEO position has been filled temporarily by Dennise Taylor-Gilhen since 2024. Taylor-Gilhen previously worked as vice-president of community impact and will move into an advisory role after this transition.

Wilson’s new role will officially start on January 12th, 2026.
