An Ottawa man is facing multiple charges, including firearm-related offenses, after a trespassing incident at Western University in London, Ontario.
In the early morning of January 24, the London Police Service arrived to assist the university’s Special Constable Service, who had detained a trespasser following a foot chase on campus. Officers found a loaded handgun at the location of the arrest.
Police discovered that there was a second suspect involved in the trespassing and further investigation led them to a home near Chesham Avenue and Chesham Place.
At the residence, officers reported finding hazardous chemicals that could be used to make explosives. Two more individuals were arrested.
The home was secured and remains under police surveillance while the Major Crime Section conducts further investigations.
Jerry Tong, 27, from Ottawa, has been charged with:
Carry concealed weapon; Careless use of a firearm; Possession of loaded regulated firearm; Resist arrest; Break and enter with intent; and Occupy a motor vehicle with a firearm.
After additional investigation, Tong received another charge for unlawful possession of explosives.
Zekun Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji, all from London, are also facing charges related to this incident.
The investigation continues with help from Ottawa Police Service, Gatineau Police Service, and Sûreté du Québec. Authorities are still present at Chesham Avenue while more warrants have been executed in Ottawa and Gatineau, Quebec.
