The Metropolis of Ottawa is about to ramp up enforcement of the brand new three-item rubbish restrict in November.

Ottawa applied the brand new three-item restrict on all households that obtain curbside waste pickup on September 30, with the objective of extending the lifetime of the Path Highway Waste Facility.

In October, all rubbish left on the curb was collected, with workers leaving a “custom non-compliance tag” on any rubbish bins or gadgets over the three-item restrict indicating the restrict had been exceeded.

Beginning Nov. 4, if the three-item restrict is exceeded, one merchandise might be left behind with a courtesy tag explaining the brand new restrict and why the merchandise was left. Any rubbish over the three-item restrict should be positioned in a yellow bag for workers to choose it up. Yellow baggage at the moment are accessible for buy at Consumer Service Centres, choose recreation neighborhood centres and House {Hardware} shops.

Beginning in December, any rubbish above the three-item restrict might be left on the curb.

Within the first two weeks of the three-item restrict, the town stated lower than two per cent of households exceeded the three-item restrict.

For the week of Sept. 30 to Oct. 4, 1.81 per cent of the 151,185 households exceeded the three-item restrict, whereas 1.04 per cent of the 155,676 households exceeded the restrict for the week of Oct. 7 to Oct. 11.

“A reminder that if a bin over the 140L limit is used for garbage set-out, or if properties set out an amount over the three-item garbage limit, Solid Waste staff will leave a courtesy tag to explain why waste was not collected,” Shelley McDonald, Director of Strong Waste Companies, stated in a press release.

“Courtesy tags have been used to educate residents on waste disposal allowances in the past, and will continue to be used moving forward to support residents in adapting to this policy change.”

Yellow baggage

Beginning in November, any rubbish over the three-item restrict should be positioned in a yellow bag.

Yellow baggage might be bought in packages of 4 for $17.60.

“There is no limit to the number of yellow bags that can be purchased and set out on garbage day,” the town says.

The town says massive cumbersome gadgets and furnishings can’t be bagged.

Right here is the checklist the place yellow baggage can be found:
