The province’s Ministry of Labour and the Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the dying of a 67-year-old man who was trapped in a corn silo at a farm south of Ottawa on Feb. 4.

The OPP stated that first responders had been known as to a farm on County Highway 7 in North Dundas Township at about 2:30 p.m. on that day.

“Firefighters and community members worked to try to remove corn as quickly as possible,” provincial police stated in a launch.

Police stated “life-saving measures began” when the sufferer was situated, however he was pronounced deceased on the scene.

“The Ministry of Labour was notified and is investigating with the OPP, but the death is not considered suspicious,” OPP stated in a press release.

In a launch, the labour ministry confirmed a ministry inspector had been assigned to research the accident.

“It was determined that the (farm owner) was unable to shut down equipment, which led to the fatal injury. The ministry extends its condolences to the family. As the investigation is ongoing, we are unable to provide further information at this time.”

Police didn’t launch the sufferer’s identification.
