A fresh air service is set to begin at the Greater Sudbury Airport.

Propair, a regional airline based in Rouyn-Noranda, Que., will kick off daily scheduled flights, excluding Saturdays, between Sudbury and Ottawa as well as Montreal starting on Oct. 27.

The announcement came from the company in a news release dated Oct. 2.

Passengers can expect flights that leave from Sudbury to Ottawa before heading to Montreal, allowing for connections to Quebec City.

The service will include early morning departures from Sudbury along with evening return flights. This setup offers travellers the “flexibility to conduct business in Ottawa, Montreal, or Quebec City and return home the very same day, an increasingly rare advantage for remote regions.”

“Expanding the connection between Quebec and these key Ontario cities is intended to support Sudbury businesses in their travel, business relations, and service offerings within these dynamic economic centres,” Justin Lemieux, Propair’s chief executive officer, mentioned in the release.

“This new route represents a strategic opportunity for the region’s economic stakeholders.”

The new service addresses a gap for early morning departures and evening arrivals into Sudbury while providing a “new gateway for companies and professionals from major metropolitan areas to reach Sudbury, making the region more accessible and attractive for business opportunities.”

“Ottawa and Montreal are two of the most highly requested destinations for our community, and we are thrilled to see Propair respond to this demand,” Giovanna Verrilli, CEO of Greater Sudbury Airport, stated in the release.

“This service offers our passengers a modern, business-focused travel experience while strengthening Sudbury’s connections to two of Canada’s most important hubs for government, commerce, and culture.”

Sincce Propair arrives and departs from fixed base operator terminals in Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City, travellers will enjoy a “business-travel style experience with faster boarding, streamlined arrivals, and a more personalized level of service,” according to the company.

The aircraft used will be Propair’s Beechcraft B1900D-a twin-engine turboprop that seats 18 passengers. Early-morning flights will offer breakfast options while snacks and drinks will be available during evening flights.

This airline has been operating since 1954 with routes covering various destinations in Quebec including Rouyn-Noranda, Montreal; Quebec City; Gatineau; plus Ottawa and Toronto in Ontario; along with charter services throughout Canada and the U. S.

Apart from the B1900D model they also operate four-passenger King Air 100s designated for medical evacuations along with nine-passenger King Air 100s used for charter services or cargo operations.

The Greater Sudbury Airport now welcomes Propair among other airlines like Air Canada; Porter Airlines; Bearskin Airlines; along with West Jet which provides seasonal services.
