A man from Ontario who was arrested in connection with a woman’s murder west of Ottawa now faces charges for threatening a business in downtown Winnipeg and its staff.

Police from Ontario notified their counterparts in Winnipeg around 1 p. m. on May 12 about a man possibly being in Manitoba’s capital, allegedly armed and ready to confront officers violently. Graham Mlodozenec, 52, hailing from Calabogie, Ont., was taken into custody in Winnipeg roughly 40 minutes later.

Officers located the suspect along west Portage Avenue near the Unicity shopping area, as stated by the Ontario Provincial Police in a news release issued Monday. They confiscated a shotgun, ammunition, various other weapons, and three jerry cans filled with gasoline, according to the release.

The threats made against the Winnipeg business came to light during investigations related to the murder of Geraldine Fulcher, 61, who also lived in Calabogie-about 85 kilometers west of Ottawa within Greater Madawaska township.

Her body was discovered in that township on May 6.

The exact timing of the threats remains unclear.

Mlodozenec now faces eight charges in Manitoba including making threats, illegal possession of a firearm, and having incendiary materials.

On Monday he was handed over to Ontario police and charged with first-degree murder concerning Fulcher’s death along with attempted murder charges.

Mlodozenec is currently detained in Ontario and is set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on June 22.

The name of the threatened business has not been disclosed by authorities.
