A transport driver has redefined “long-haul trucking” after getting pulled over with a load of logs considered unsafe by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

The 29-year-old driver from Earlton, Ont., was stopped on Paul Martin Drive near Pembroke just before 6 p. m. Monday after officers looked into a complaint about an oversized load, OPP reported Thursday.

Images of the truck show logs extending several meters beyond the back of the trailer.

Officers measured the total length of the vehicle and its cargo at over 31 meters, labeling it “unsafe due to excessive length, improper load securement, and the absence of required lighting to mark the rear of the load.”

Both the driver and the transport company are facing charges under the Highway Traffic Act. (Upper Ottawa Valley OPP)

OPP, in conjunction with a Ministry of Transport enforcement officer, charged the driver with multiple offenses under the Highway Traffic Act.

The company that owns the truck is also facing charges.

“The OPP would like to remind drivers and owners of [transport trucks] to review all transportation and safety requirements prior to shipping oversized loads in order to help keep Ontario roadways safe,” OPP said in a news release.
