Southeast Public Health (SEPH) is alerting residents to check for signs of measles following potential exposure at three locations in Kingston, Ont., earlier this month.

If you visited these places during the times listed below, you might have been exposed to the highly contagious virus, SEPH advised:

The Goodlife gym at 64 Barrack St. on Monday, Feb. 9, between 8 and 11 p. m. Queen’s University’s Kingston Hall at 103 Stuart St. on Tuesday, Feb. 10, between 11:30 a. m. and 2:30 p. m. The Metro grocery store at 310 Barrie St. on Friday, Feb. 13 between 4:45 and 7 p. m.

SEPH mentioned that anyone who thinks they may have come into contact with the virus should verify their measles immunity status and watch for symptoms like fever, cough and runny nose, irritated eyes or a red, blotchy rash.

Symptoms usually show up within 21 days, which means they could appear during the first week of March in this case. Anyone experiencing symptoms within that period should follow specific guidelines.

As of Feb. 14, federal data indicated there were 239 confirmed measles cases across Canada so far this year. Most cases were reported in Manitoba, while Ontario had just one confirmed case.

Ontario declared a measles outbreak over last October after over 2,300 cases were recorded along with the death of a newborn who contracted measles in utero and was born prematurely.
