Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say the demise of an inmate on the Millhaven Establishment west of Kingston was the results of foul play.
Brody Robinson, 23, died whereas in custody at Correctional Service Canada’s most safety jail on Oct. 29.
Police say an inmate was positioned with no important indicators in his cell shortly after 8:30 p.m.
“Facility employees and paramedics tried life-saving measures, however the person was pronounced deceased on the scene,” the OPP mentioned in an announcement on Thursday.
“The preliminary investigation has decided that the demise was the results of foul play.”
The OPP-led Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad is main the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his demise.
The inmate had been serving a sentence of 4 years for possession of a schedule I/II substance for the aim of trafficking, which started on June 2, 2023.
The Correctional Service Canada mentioned on Oct. 30 that it was reviewing the circumstances involving Robinson’s demise.
Millhaven Establishment is a maximums safety facility positioned close to Tub, Ont.
