Another storm is on its way to the province, bringing a mix of winter weather.

The forecast for Ontario includes freezing rain and as much as 20 centimetres of snow.

According to The Weather Network, this storm will sweep across southern and eastern Ontario on Friday, February 20, delivering another wave of “unpredictable precipitation.”

This system is similar to the one that brought freezing rain, ice pellets, and snow to Ontario earlier in the week.

It will travel from the southwest to the northeast, with different types of precipitation expected as it moves through the province.

Many areas are predicted to start with rain that turns into freezing rain before finally changing to snow, based on The Weather Network’s report.

However, some regions may only experience snowfall without any other forms of precipitation.

The transition zone is expected around the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), making conditions “difficult” throughout Friday in those regions.

This time around, there’s less chance for significant accumulation of ice pellets compared to Wednesday’s storm.

The forecast for Toronto suggests temperatures will be mild enough for most of this storm to come down as rain. However, a changeover from rain to snow is likely in the afternoon and evening.

Around three centimetres of snow is anticipated in Toronto and the GTA, while areas north and east like Barrie, Port Perry, Kawartha Lakes, Peterborough, and Cobourg could see five to ten centimetres.

Further east will have “consistent snow,” especially in Ottawa where snowfall amounts are expected to rise as the storm progresses through the area.

The Weather Network indicated that eastern and central Ontario will receive the “heaviest snowfall,” thanks to more stable colder air. These regions can expect between 15 and 20 centimetres.

There’s a chance for additional snowfall in the GTA over Saturday, February 21 and Sunday, February 22.

The local forecasts from The Weather Network predict one to three centimetres on Saturday and two to four centimetres on Sunday in the GTA.
