Two individuals have lost their lives after a head-on collision on New Year’s Eve, just northwest of Brockville, Ont., as reported by provincial police.

The drivers involved, a woman aged 66 from Smiths Falls and a man also aged 66 from Markham, Ont., were declared dead at the scene, said OPP.

A single passenger traveling with the man sustained injuries that are not life-threatening, police mentioned.

OPP Const. Joey Mason informed CBC that the man was operating a Honda sedan while the woman was behind the wheel of a Ford SUV.

As of 6:40 p.m., County Road 29 remained shut down near where the accident occurred as investigations are ongoing.
