OSHAWA, ON (January 10, 2026) — The Halifax Thunderbirds lost to the Oshawa Fire Wolves in the second half of their back-to-back games, ending with a score of 16-9 at Tribute Communities Centre on Saturday night.

The Thunderbirds started strong with a goal from Randy Staats during a power play. However, Oshawa responded by scoring five consecutive goals to end the quarter. Ethan Walker and Patrick Kaschalk got on the board first for the Fire Wolves, followed by Tye Kurtz who scored three times in a row, bringing the score to 5-1 by the end of the first quarter.

Oshawa kept their momentum going into the second quarter, outscoring Halifax 6-1. Jackson Nishimura, Alex Simmons, Taggart Clark, and Ethan Walker contributed goals while Kurtz added two more. Clarke Petterson managed to get one goal for the Thunderbirds but at halftime it was 11-2 in favor of Oshawa.

As they came back from halftime, Simmons and Clark extended Oshawa’s lead to eleven goals. Although Dawson Theede, Petterson, and Christian Watts found the net for Halifax, Kurtz completed his hat trick making it 14-5 for the Fire Wolves at the end of three quarters.

Kurtz kicked off the fourth quarter with his seventh goal of the night. Halifax fought back with three power play goals — two from Staats and another from Theede. Walker and Terefenko exchanged goals as time ran out, giving Oshawa a solid victory at 16-9.

The Thunderbirds are now sitting at a record of 3-3 after splitting their weekend games. They will be back home next weekend facing off against the Colorado Mammoth on Jan 16. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p. m. AT.
