The Community and Operations Services Committee of Oshawa has turned down a request from the Durham Catholic District School Board to help pay for a new sports field at a high school that is currently being built.

According to Insauga, the city denied the request for $400,000 because they believe there are 29 sports fields in Oshawa that aren’t being fully used.

The city pointed out that they do not want to make a funding agreement right now due to the 58 percent utilization rate of those 29 fields during prime time.
