Earlier in December, Oshawa Generals’ overage forward Luke Posthumus announced he’ll be joining the NCAA at St. Lawrence University. Now, another player from the Generals has secured a scholarship to continue his hockey journey while pursuing an education after his time in the OHL.
Defenseman Lucas Moore has decided to commit to Niagara University.
The 20-year-old is a seasoned player, with nearly 300 games played across both regular seasons and playoffs. He’s just 10 games shy of that milestone and will reach it with the Oshawa Generals, having spent his entire career with the Bulldogs organization.
This strong skating defenseman holds an OHL championship title. Although he wasn’t a regular during Hamilton Bulldogs’ playoff run in 2022, he did get into one playoff game as well as 34 regular season games, earning his name on the J. Ross Robertson Cup trophy.
Moore was set to have another chance at winning a championship this season in Brantford. Unfortunately, when the Bulldogs brought in Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Ben Danford, they let go of their long-standing defenseman. While Moore now gets to play as a top-four defenseman in Oshawa, it’s clear he would have preferred being part of the Bulldogs’ championship lineup.
A positive aspect of this trade for Moore is that it brings him closer to home. The native of Peterborough, Ontario, was quite far away and had to navigate the notorious 401 traffic to visit family. Now, he’s just an hour’s drive away thanks to Highway 115 connecting both cities.
Moore will join former OHL players Jacob Maillet and Declan Mc Donnell at Niagara.
