The Oshawa Generals have added some size and forward strength by bringing in Charlie Hilton from the Soo Greyhounds. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound power forward is set to return to his hometown.
In the trade, Oshawa gave up a third-round pick in 2029 and a conditional 10th-round pick in 2029. They also picked up a sixth-round pick for 2028 along with the local talent from Oshawa, Ontario.
Hilton, who is 19 years old, was picked up by the Greyhounds last season in early October after playing in 32 games with the Ottawa 67’s during the 2023-24 season. He shows that it doesn’t really matter where you get drafted or even if you’re selected at all; hard work and perseverance can open doors.
He was selected 270th overall in the 14th round of the 2022 OHL Priority Selection. After being drafted, he spent his next season with the U18 Oshawa Generals in the ETAHL, so he’s not new to wearing a Gens jersey.
Last season with the Greyhounds, Hilton played in 51 games and put up ten points (four goals and six assists) while spending time in a bottom-six role and accumulating 59 penalty minutes. This season, through eight games, he has one goal and one assist before taking personal leave from the Greyhounds to be closer to family, as reported by Brad Coccimiglio with Soo Today.
The Gens fans will enjoy Hilton’s physical playstyle and toughness on the ice. Meanwhile, Sault Ste. Marie receives a sixth-round draft pick they could use to enhance their lineup ahead of January’s trade deadline.
