This was Kingston’s second victory over last-place Oshawa within just five days; they had previously defeated them at Slush Puppie Place by a score of 7-3.

Matt Minchak was back in net for his fourth consecutive start for Kingston. He achieved his first shutout in the Ontario Hockey League by stopping an impressive total of 34 shots. With this clean sheet on Sunday night, Minchak improved his record to 8-7-1-1 and boosted his save percentage to.928-now ranking second best in the OHL.

The Generals had control during much of the first period, outshooting Kingston by a margin of 14-4. However, Minchak made some outstanding saves against breakaways from Ben Cormier as well as close chances from Luke Posthumus and Onni Kalto. Surprisingly enough, it was Kingston who scored first.

Landon Wright got behind Oshawa’s defense before deftly outmaneuvering goalie Matthew Humphries. For Wright, it marked his fifth goal this season and sixth point over five games after being sidelined for six matches during a tough stretch for Kingston. His speed has been a big asset as they’ve turned things around.

The game shifted significantly during the second period as it was now Kingston leading play. Toward the end of this frame, Nolan Buttar provided some breathing room for his team after receiving a pass from Nolan Snyder; he took aim at Humphries who managed to stop initially but left a rebound for Buttar who capitalized quickly. This marked Buttar’s fourth goal this season-his third goal in just four games-showcasing newfound scoring ability.

Oshawa relentlessly fired shots towards Kingston’s net in an effort to stage a comeback during third period play; however Minchak continued making key saves throughout. With only three minutes remaining on the clock Robin Kuzma received an interference penalty which prompted Oshawa’s coach pull Humphries for an extra attacker. Just two minutes before time expired Frontenacs’ defenceman Maleek Mc Gowan sealed off any hopes with a long shot into an empty net,

With this win brought Kingston’s record up to13 -16 -2 -2 , placing them seventh overall within Eastern Conference standings. Their next challenge awaits against strong competitors Brantford Bulldogs happening Friday at Slush Puppie Place.
