Authentic Japanese ramen has made its way to north Oshawa with the launch of Kinto Ramen on Simcoe Street, right in the city’s University District.
After over a decade since opening its first restaurant in Toronto and introducing their ‘Bowl of Happiness’ to the Greater Toronto Area, Kinto Ramen is moving further east with its grand opening in Oshawa set for Saturday, Oct. 24.
Situated at 1800 Simcoe St. N. – selected for being close to Durham College and Ontario Tech University – Kinto Ramen initially welcomed guests on Sept. 8, just as the academic year began, and has been in a soft-opening phase for the past month, offering its Japanese ramen experience to students, faculty, and locals while gearing up for this weekend’s official launch.
“We recognized a fantastic opportunity to bring Kinton Ramen into a neighborhood bustling with students,” said Trista Jorgensen, the company’s marketing director. “We know that people here live busy lives, so our aim is to provide quick service without sacrificing the high standards and authentic flavors that Kinton Ramen stands for.”
The restaurant – only a seven-minute walk from campus – is surrounded by student housing, campus facilities, and various fast-casual dining spots. Jorgensen noted that feedback since opening has been “incredibly encouraging.”
“We’ve been truly touched by the support from the Oshawa community,” she said. “We chose to open around the start of school so we could become part of students’ daily habits right away. Now that we’re preparing for our official launch celebration, we’re eager to keep building on that momentum and share a Bowl of Happiness with even more new friends.”
As the only quick-service ramen place nearby, Kinton Ramen is bringing genuine Japanese ramen to an area where there’s demand for convenient, affordable dining options without skimping on quality. Whether it’s students grabbing lunch between classes or faculty looking for something quick or locals searching for new culinary experiences, Jorgensen emphasized that they offer a friendly environment along with delicious meals.
Diners can pick from signature broths like Original, Shoyu, Miso and Spicy Garlic, featuring pork, chicken, beef and vegetarian choices alongside popular items such as gyoza, karaage and Tokyo fries.

Kinton Ramen is well-known for its rich broths made slowly from quality ingredients while ensuring every bowl tastes just as good at each location. With 55 spots across Canada and the U. S., it opened its first American franchise in Chicago back in 2019.

The brand started after an earthquake devastated Kobe in Japan when future executive chef Aki Urata lost his home as well as his school and workplace.
“During those cold winter months after everything happened we launched a food truck; seeing how thankful people were showed me that ramen could be successful.”
Kinton Ramen Oshawa will officially celebrate its grand opening this Saturday by inviting everyone to enjoy a Bowl of Happiness with 50 percent off all regular ramen dishes for dine-in customers throughout the day. The restaurant operates daily from 11:30 a. m. to 10:30 p. m.
Kinton Ramen joined forces with Foodtastic family of brands back in 2026.
