Firefighters are still responding to a blaze at Olive Avenue and Oshawa Boulevard in Oshawa, with police advising motorists to steer clear of the area after a shoe repair shop caught fire early Thursday morning.
The cause of the fire hasn’t been confirmed yet, but Oshawa Boulevard from St. Eloi Avenue to Mitchell Avenue is expected to stay closed for much of the day, while Olive Avenue between Verdun Road and Ritson Road reopened to traffic just after 9 a. m.

Oshawa Fire was also busy tackling a residential fire on Richmond Street East Tuesday, and Ajax Fire responded to a blaze at Ajax Plaza on Monday, with the investigation into that incident now under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office.
Ajax firefighters were dispatched to the plaza located at Harwood Avenue and Hunt Street at 2 a. m. on Monday.
Wratz Collectibles, a business near the fire scene, gave a “big shout out” to the Ajax Fire Department, police, and “all those involved” in keeping things under control.
“Luckily we dodged a big one,” read their post on Facebook. “Checked inside, could smell a little smoke. Wasn’t enough to set off any alarms. Fire was contained quickly by the best in the business. We will be open as usual tomorrow.”
