Thomas Ducharme passed away on August 8, 2018, at the age of 76 after battling pancreatic cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Philemon and Agnes (Jansen) Ducharme; his brother, Richard; and his daughter, Rita.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Sandy; children, Renee, Michael, Jim (Suzanne), and Neil; son-in-law, Richard Willox; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Patricia (Richard) Coan; and sister-in-law, Carol.

Tom attended St. John’s Catholic School and graduated from Alexander Ramsey High School in Roseville in 1959. He lived his entire life in Little Canada, MN. He began working with his father at the Brings Company and later co-owned the business with his brother Richard. After a dedicated 40-year career, Tom retired and was affectionately known as the “Onion Man.”

He was very involved in the Little Canada Volunteer Fire Department. He served as Chief Engineer, taught at Minnesota’s fire school, and played a role on the committee that built the current fire station and helped purchase new trucks. He earned certification from the Congressional Fire Service Institute-one of only 11 individuals in MN to do so. Tom loved sharing stories and mentoring many within the department. His passion for helping people made a difference in his community.

In his free time, he enjoyed exploring the Ash River Trail in Orr, MN, spending time at their cabin by the lake, and visiting the Donut Hut. He cherished moments with family during snowmobile trips or boating adventures while RV’ing across the country.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, August 14 at ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST CATHOLIC CHURCH located at 380 E. Little Canada Rd., Little Canada. Interment will take place at St. John’s Church Cemetery. Visitation will occur AT THE CHURCH from 4-8 PM on Monday and again from 10-11 AM on Tuesday.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Health East Cancer Care staff, St. John’s Hospital team members, and Pillars Hospice for their support during this time.
