Sylvia Fetter, 76, Passes Away

At the Riverview Gardens Nursing Home, on Tuesday February 3rd, 2026, Sylvia Fetter passed away peacefully at the age of 76. She was the loving daughter of the late James and Eileen (Samspon) Champaigne. Sylvia was a devoted wife to Brian Fetter for over 53 years. She was predeceased by their infant daughter Maria Fetter (1981). She leaves behind her dear sister Glenna (Larry) Brazeau of Timmins and her beloved niece Kelly (Norm) Bougie, along with honorary grandma status to their children Mattie and Maggie Bougie, Jason (Kelly) Brazeau, Cynthia (Steve) Joduin, Curtis Champaigne, Mark (Cindy) Weaver, Jill (Jack) Ferren, April Inglis, Jean (Gord) Gould, Jamie Inglis, John Inglis, Scott Weaver and Pam Weaver. She was also predeceased by her brother Gerald Champaigne (Joy), as well as sisters-in-law Patricia (James) Inglis and Vivian Weaver.

Brian and Sylvia met in North Bay before moving to Sarnia and then to Chatham. In Chatham they ran Fetter’s Snack Shack from 1975 to 1998. After that, Sylvia worked at Walmart from 1999 until her retirement in 2014.

Sylvia had a warm personality and loved being around family and friends. Her home always felt inviting; she often brought pots of soup or fresh muffins to share with neighbors. Her kindness will always be remembered.

Family and friends are invited to Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, located at 245 Wellington West in Chatham, phone number 519-352-2710 on Thursday February 5th, 2026. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 pm and again from 7 to 9 pm. The memorial service will take place in the chapel of the funeral home on Friday February 6th, 2026 at one o’clock in the afternoon. Cremation has already occurred. Interment will be held at Maple Leaf Cemetery in Chatham at a later date. Sylvia had a warm personality that drew people near her family meant everything she often shared soup or baked goods with neighbors-a testament that her kindness will remain unforgettable.

The community is invited for visitation on Thursday February fifth two thousand twenty-six starting from two till four PM then seven till nine PM respectively hosted by Alexander & Houle Funeral Home located at two hundred forty-five Wellington West street within Chatham’s vicinity contactable via phone five one nine three five two two seven one zero thereafter memorial services will occur inside said establishment’s chapel Friday afternoon commencing promptly At One O’Clock following cremation proceedings interment follows later within Maple Leaf Cemetery situated nearby those seeking ways To honor memories are encouraged towards charitable organizations online condolences offered through www. alexanderandhoulefuneralhome. ca
