1949-2026
Sandy, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, at the age of 76.
A Life Filled with Hard Work and Energy Born in Fort William (Thunder Bay), Sandy had a strong work ethic and was full of life. She started working at the Royal Edward and then Holland Bakery right after high school. However, she truly loved her 30 years as a Dietary Aid at Grandview Lodge. In her younger days, she had endless energy; she rode her bike to work every day and even challenged herself with long rides to the border.
The Center of Her Family Sandy’s life was all about giving to others. Whether caring for patients or looking after her husband and children, she always put others first. She felt happiest when her home was bustling with family gatherings in the kitchen while baking and enjoying treats with her granddaughter, Manna. Sandy had a special way of making everyone-especially her nieces, nephews, and their parents-feel welcome and important. Holidays were especially meaningful to her as she made sure each celebration was filled with goodies, laughter, patience, and love.
A Peaceful Retreat in Nature At home, Sandy found joy in her backyard. A true animal lover “fur and feather,” she could spend hours watching birds and squirrels play around.
She shared a unique connection with her trees that she named after family members she loved dearly. Her yard was always tidy (often boasting a fresh handful of weeds) because it brought her pride. Evening visits from her bird friend Rosie were moments she looked forward to most. As time went on,
Sandy discovered comfort in simple pleasures: sitting in her living room surrounded by beloved family photos along with her collection of angels, gargoyles, and flying pigs; ending the day by watching Hallmark movies with her daughter-in-law Brenda.
Family Sandy was preceded in death by: Husband: Robert (Bob) Ennis; they enjoyed 53 wonderful years together. Granddaughter: Allyceea. Parents: Eldee and Mona Durant. Siblings: Al (Ann), Donald (Helen), and Ethel Fodchuk (Ormie). She is survived by two sons: Scott (Sheri) and Kelly (Brenda). Granddaughter: Manna. Brother: Larry (Violet). Extended Family: Many nieces, nephews including niece Tashia-Rose along with great-nephew Shea are left behind to remember her fondly.
Services A celebration of Sandy’s life will take place this spring. In memory of her love for animals throughout life, the family asks that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Ontario SPCA & Humane Society Northwest Animal Centre.
