OGDENSBURG- Mrs. Pavitar Kaur Grewal, the widow of S. Sampuran Singh Grewal, passed away peacefully at her home in Ogdensburg, NY. She leaves behind a family of twenty-two grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren. Born into a farming family in United Punjab in 1932, she spent her childhood years in India. She married young and moved to Kenya with her husband. After her husband’s passing, she returned to Ludhiana, Punjab, where she raised their six daughters and two sons with support from her extended family. In 1983, she relocated to Canada to be with her daughter. After living with each of her children for some time, she ultimately settled in Ogdensburg, NY, with her youngest son.
She is predeceased by her husband and three sons-in-law: Narinder Bains from Windsor, Ontario; Jeet Singh Rai from Pune, India; and Dilbag Bains from Canton, Michigan. She is the mother/mother-in-law of Jagjit and Manmohan Chahal from Albany, NY; Paramjit Kaur Bains from Windsor, Ontario; Harminder Jeet Kaur Rai from Burnaby, BC; Rupinderpal and Jaswant Grewal from Calgary, Alberta; Pawan Bains from Canton, Michigan; Sharanjeet and Jasbir Barn from Brampton, Ontario; Jagdeep and Amarinder Dhaliwal from Wheatley, Ontario; and Gurinderpal and Kavya Grewal from Ogdensburg, NY.
Visitation will take place at Frary Funeral Home located at 515 Caroline Street in Ogdensburg on Friday, January 9th, 2026 from 3:00 to 5:00 p. m., as well as on Saturday January 10th ,2026 between 1:00 p. m. to 4:00 p. m. There will also be a gathering at the Elk’s Lodge for refreshments on Saturday starting at 1:00 p. m. until 8:00 p. m.
On Sunday January 11th ,2026 there will be a viewing held from 9:00 to10:00 a. m., followed by a prayer service at10 :00a. m. and cremation at11 :00a. m. at Irvine Memorial Chapel located within Roselawn Memorial Gardens at2451 County Road15 , Maitland , Ontario , Canada.
Bhog and Antim Ardas will occur at2 :00p. m. at the Sikh Temple Ottawa Sikh Society situated at25 Gurdwara Road Nepean Ontario.(https://ottawasikhsociety. com).
The family warmly invites everyone to join them for langar on Sunday at the Ottawa Gurdwara.
