Rob Laidlaw handed away peacefully at dwelling on Sunday, January 5, 2025, on the age of 64. Rob is survived by his loving spouse, Joyce (née Van Buren); his two sons, Alex (Cody) and Ryan (Taylor); his sisters, Beverlee and Margaret; an prolonged household of beloved family members together with in-laws, nephews & nieces; and numerous cherished pals.
Rob was born in Calgary on February 9, 1960, to Bob and Esther Laidlaw. After graduating from Western Canada Excessive Faculty, he earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Arizona State College, and cemented lasting friendships in founding the “Loopy Canadian Membership”. Returning to Calgary, Rob constructed a distinguished profession as a monetary advisor, spending the previous 25 years at Acumen Capital Companions. Rob’s innate skill to develop real connections, usually by means of a fast joke and a shared chuckle, earned him immense respect within the Calgary enterprise neighborhood.
Rob married Joyce in October 1988, and along with their two sons shared a wedding full of love and laughter. Rob treasured having enjoyable of their favorite locations, Glen Lake, Montana and Scottsdale, Arizona. Rob beloved nothing greater than lunch with pals, watching soccer, barbequing for family members, a ship cruise across the lake, and a time out on the golf course – usually joined by his loyal caddy, Henk.
Rob was well-known for his ambassadorship and lifelong dedication to the Calgary Stampede. His volunteer journey started with the Downtown Sights Mascots Committee. He served for a decade on the Board and was named an Honorary Life Director. One in all his proudest moments was arranging for Outlaw the bull to kick off the rodeo by ringing the closing bell for the New York Inventory Trade.
Rob’s generosity made him a pure neighborhood builder. His annual “Greatest Rattling Stampede Celebration” contributed over $1.8 million to charitable causes, notably the Kids’s Hospital Support Society. He co-founded “The Posse,” a spirited group of pals who sponsored a chuckwagon. In all places he went, Rob introduced individuals collectively along with his heat, welcoming nature.
Rob’s legacy extends far past his skilled and philanthropic accomplishments. He was a loyal household man, a loyal pal, and an everlasting optimist. His boundless humor, love of storytelling, and skill to forge lifelong connections had been hallmarks of his character.
Rob’s household wish to specific gratitude to the various devoted docs and nurses on Unit 36 on the Foothills Hospital, who labored tirelessly over the vacations to take care of Rob.
To honour Rob, his mother and father Bob and Esther, and commemorate their many contributions to the Calgary neighborhood, the Laidlaw Household Fund has been established at Calgary Basis. Donations in his reminiscence might be made right here.
A Celebration of Life might be held within the Champions Ballroom on the BMO Centre at Stampede Park (1912 Flores Ladue Parade SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
