Matil Spies, beloved spouse of Bruce Raymond Spies, of Calgary, AB, handed away on Monday, December 30, 2024, on the age of 76 years.

 

Matil was born on March 14, 1948, in Joub Jannine, Lebanon. She was the third of 5 youngsters of Theeb Abboud (1921-2001) and Jamileh Abboud (1924-1997). Matil’s mother and father and two youthful brothers moved to Canada in 1956.  The next 12 months, on June 17,  1957, Matil and her two older sisters got here to Canada to be with the remainder of the household.  That journey took the three older women on a big boat and sailed throughout the ocean to Ellis Island, then by prepare to Western Canada to satisfy up with their household.  They determined to reside in Calgary, AB.  Matil attended college in Calgary and graduated from Ernest Manning Excessive College.  After college, she went to work at SAIT, the place she met her husband, Bruce.  On August 2, 1969, Matil and Bruce had been married.  After their wedding ceremony, Matil labored at Gulf Oil, beginning within the mailroom after which in accounting till she and Bruce began their household.  Matil had many hobbies that included stitching, cross-stitch, and petit-point.  Cooking and baking had been what she beloved to do essentially the most, particularly for everybody round her.  Household time was important to Matil, whether or not a day go to or a visit to many corners of the world.   

 

Matil is survived by her husband Bruce, daughters, Lisa Spies and Catharine (Bradley) Gimbel; son Adam (Corey) Spies, grandchildren, Jacob Gimbel, Andrew Gimbel, Sophie Gimbel, Moira Spies-Scott, and Laina Spies-Scott of Calgary, AB. She can also be survived by her two sisters, Debbie Shlah and Nuha (Joseph) Mousallem; brother Shaddy (Huguette) Abboud, and plenty of nieces and nephews of Calgary, AB. Matil was predeceased by her mother and father, Theeb and Jamileh Abboud; her brother Roger Abboud, godson and nephew, Brian Shlah, and brother-in-law Hikmat Shlah.

 

A giant, big because of Unit 66 on the South Well being Campus, the Digital Residence Hospital on the South Well being Campus, Unit 57 on the Rockyview Normal Hospital and most of all, Unit 71 on the Rockyview Normal Hospital.  The nursing and healthcare aides had been phenomenal with the look after Matil. Additionally large because of Dr. Ralph Hawkins, Dr. Nairne Scott-Douglas and Dr. Patrick Champagne.

Requiem Service shall be celebrated at St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church (404 Meredith Highway N.E., Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Eden Brook Memorial Gardens (Decrease Springbank Highway and seventeenth Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB).

 

Condolences, recollections, and photographs could also be shared and seen with Matil’s household right here.
