Mary Veronica Beaton was born in Inverness, N. S. on May 20, 1956 and passed away on November 24, 2025. For the last 20 years, she lived with her sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Hugh Palmer, in Westville.
She spent many years attending Summer Street Industries where she built lasting friendships. Those who knew Mary can confirm how much she cared for her ‘babies’ and cherished the family gatherings in Mabou Coal Mines.
Mary was the loving daughter of the late John D. and Veronica (Mac Neil) Beaton.
She was also predeceased by her eldest brother Joe and his wife Brenda Beaton as well as her niece Lesley Roddick.
She is survived by her sister Anne (Hugh) Palmer, brother Sandy (Carol) Beaton, and brother Finlay (Judy) Beaton. Many nieces and nephews will also miss her deeply, especially her great niece Mira Palmer with whom she shared snacks, toys, and cartoons.
Mary had a special connection with her sitter, Mary Turner, who read stories to her, prepared lovely lunches, and taught Mary how to “Clean Up”. She loved going to Church and singing in the choir; once she even told Father Boudreau to “Hurry Up,” to which he replied “I’m going as fast as I can Mary”! Our dad often said that Mom was just as stubborn as the Mac Neils’, a trait that Mary carried right to the end.
The family is extremely thankful for the care provided by the Palliative Care team at Aberdeen Hospital led by Rachel along with VON staff who treated her with dignity and respect.
Even though she didn’t use many words, she made it clear when visitors came that she wanted to “Go Home”.
Well Mary, you finally got your wish to “Go Home”!
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 1 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Eagles Funeral Home in Westville. Her funeral service will take place at Holy Name Catholic Church in Westville on Tuesday, December 2 at 11am with burial following afterward.
