Mary Jeanette (Kennedy) Fraser, age 66, from Pleasant Valley, Nova Scotia, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow with her family by her side. She was born on October 15, 1958 in Westville, Pictou County, as the youngest daughter of the late Daniel and Irene (Mac Naughton) Kennedy. Mary was a loving wife to the late Elwood Fraser, a great mother to Christopher and his wife Samantha, and a caring grandmother to her beloved grandchildren Nolan and Mason, who she adored.

Mary graduated from Westville High School in 1977 where she served as the student council secretary during her final year. She also completed a one-year bookkeeping course at Stellarton Vocational School. After finishing school, she worked in the office for Hawker Siddeley Steel Company in Trenton, NS. Shortly after marrying Elwood, she owned and operated the Westville #1 Video Store. Mary took part in the Pictou County Horse Club that included many communities across Nova Scotia and contributed to the North Colchester Exhibition in Pictou County.

Mary and Elwood shared a passion for horses-Clydesdales, Belgians, and Percherons were their favorites. She enjoyed offering sleigh rides during wintertime and hosting summer weddings; they even had trips to Tim Hortons with her husband and sisters known as “the Kennedy girls.” Mary loved gatherings whether it was playing cards or attending Wednesday evenings with the “Fatty Club.”

Mary is survived by her son Chris and daughter-in-law Samantha; her two grandsons Nolan and Mason (who will surely miss going to Grandma’s for snacks); brother Bill Kennedy (Colleen) of Burton, NB; sisters: Colleen Zdan (Bruce) of Duncan, BC; Cathy White (John) of Sussex, NB; brothers-in-law: David Cormier of Westville, NS; Leonard Fraser (Donna), Allan Fraser (Mary); sisters-in-law: Bev Clark (David), Iva Campbell (Keith), Dale Hislop (Donnie), Velda Fulmore (David), Helen O’Connor (Chuck); along with many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her dear husband Elwood in 2023; brothers: James Daniel Kennedy and John Vernon Kennedy; sisters Martha Jean Fraser and June Elizabeth Ann Cormier as well as two infant sisters; brothers-in-law: Charlie Fraser and David Zdan; sister-in-law Faye Kennedy; father- and mother-in-law Lloyd and Evelyn Fraser along with brother-in-law Bill Roddick.

The visitation will take place on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at Eagles Funeral Home in Westville from 2:00 to 4:00pm and again from 6:00 to 8:00pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 26 at 11:00am at Eagles Funeral Home Chapel. A private interment will occur later.

Flowers are welcome but donations can also be made in memory of Mary to Elwood Fraser’s Multipurpose Barn at the Pictou-North Colchester Exhibition.

You can make donations via etransfer to pictouexhibition@gmail. com or mail them to:
