Wearne, Thomas David
David passed away peacefully, surrounded by family after a short illness at the age of 87.
He will be fondly remembered by his wife Colleen, his daughter Patrice and her husband Bill, his son Brian and wife Michelle, sister-in-law Lorrie Murphy and Andy Thornley, brother-in-law Neil Murphy and wife Joan, as well as father-in-law Jim Murphy. Also remembering him is his dear cousin Beverley Cawood along with her children Jaydee, Dawn, and Jennifer. He was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Ada (Cissie Smith) Wearne. David completed his early education in Windsor at John Campbell and Kennedy Collegiate before earning a B. Sc. at Assumption University of Windsor; M. Ed. and Ed. D. degrees at Wayne State University; and L. Th at Laud Hall Seminary. He also graduated from the Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College in Kingston. David taught in local high schools as well as at the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Education. He dedicated 22 years to the Canadian Forces (Reserves), retiring with the rank of Lieutenant-colonel while receiving the Canadian Forces Decoration with bar. In June 2002, David was called to Holy Orders; he served as a Deacon at Church of the Ascension before becoming a Priest at Good Shepherd Mission in Plymouth, Michigan. He was a knight of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller, a member of Ambassador Branch #143 of the Royal Canadian Legion, and held life membership with Windsor Masonic Lodge #403 and Rose Croix. A Celebration of Life will take place at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home- South Chapel, 3048 Dougall Avenue (519-253-7236), on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 2:00 pm.- 4:00pm.
A private family interment in the Memorial Garden at Church of the Ascension will occur later. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Windsor Youth Centre or Street Help in Dave’s memory.
