Fred passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Campbellford Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family in his 95th year.
He was a loving husband for 60 years to Elinor Fitzgerald (nee Harrington, who passed away in 2016). Fred took pride in being the father of Brian (Katherine) from Edmonton, Terry (Christine) from Douro, Daryl (Mary Lou) from Douro, Cathy Condon (John) from Oakville, Patrick (Kathy) from Selwyn and Louise (who predeceased him). He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Regan (Tylor), Sean (Matt), and Matt; Katie Bergeron (Guillaume), Sarah (who predeceased him), Jordan (Melissa) and Patrick (Jenn); Leigh, Danielle (who predeceased him) & Joseph (who predeceased him); Kelly (who predeceased him), Sean (Rosie) and Jacob Condon; Fleury, Forest and Fox; as well as Kassandra. He was also cherished by his great-grandchildren: Madeleine and Owen Bergeron; Nathan and Luke Fitzgerald; along with Oliver & Edison Fitzgerald. Fred was predeceased by his parents Tom & Mary Fitzgerald and by his brothers Elmer Jordan (Rose) and Lorne Jordan. He is survived by brother-in-law Jack Harrington (Theresa), sisters-in-law Marion O’Grady (Jack, who is predeceased) and Norma Guerin (Jack, who is also predeceased). He was preceded in death by sister-in-law Madeline Thompson (Lloyd) and brother-in-law Clare Harrington (Rosemary, who is predeceased).
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Pleasant Meadow Manor in Norwood and the Campbellford Memorial Hospital for their kind care.
Visitation will take place at HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Road, Peterborough on Monday, February 23, 2026, from 2 – 4 p. m. and again from 6 – 8 p. m. Knights Prayers will be held at 5:30 p. m. that same evening.
A Funeral Mass will be conducted at ST. JOSEPH’S CHURCH in DOURO on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at 11 a. m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Douro. We invite everyone to join us for a light lunch at the Douro Hall after the service.
