It is with deep sorrow that the family of David Clyde shares the news of his passing, at the age of 84, on January 29, 2026. While this brings sadness, there is also gratitude knowing he left us peacefully surrounded by his loving children.
David leaves behind his cherished daughters Ruth Henry (Ron), Colleen Mc Kee (George), and Lena Gervais (Rick). He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his grandchildren Daniel (Megan), Michael (Kendra), Natalie (Eric) Mc Diarmid, Amber Henry, Ansley Thornton, Kit Thornton-Adams (Chris), Zachary (Cassandra), Jadzia, and Xavier Gervais. His great-grandchildren Lily, Maya, Ezri, Ruby, Owen, Fiona, Tyson, Rosalie and Atticus will also remember him fondly.
His siblings Albert, Sean (Margaret), Doreen (David), Charlie, and Norma (John) will hold him in their hearts along with many nieces and nephews across Canada, Ireland and Northern Ireland.
David was predeceased by his parents John and Hester Clyde, his eldest sister Ruth Jackson, and his infant grandson Ryan Clyde Gervais.
In 1961, David moved to Canada from Banbridge in Northern Ireland. He settled in the Almonte area where he worked as a painter/decorator. In Canada, he continued to pursue his love for bagpipes by playing in several bands including the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa. He played a key role in starting the first North Lanark Highland Games. In 1981 he established the Mac Eóin-Ramsay Pipe Band made up of local pipers as well as some of his numerous piping students. A talented composer of bagpipe tunes himself, he Heritage Collection Vol 1 in 2011.
Recently some of David’s former students from the 1990s revived Mac Eóin-Ramsay to carry on his joy for piping; their early competition successes brought him great happiness. They paid tribute to him by choosing the David Clyde tartan for their band uniform; it was designed in 2011 by David and officially recognized by the Scottish Register of Tartans in 2018. The family is thankful that David’s musical influence continues through such dedicated players.
In his later years while facing challenges from Parkinson’s disease, David handled everything with dignity and always expressed gratitude towards those caring for him. The family appreciates the wonderful care provided to Dad by the staff on the 7th floor at Carling View Manor during his stay there especially over the last five days.
The family will welcome visitors at Alan R Barker Funeral Home located at 19 Mc Arthur Avenue in Carleton Place on Friday February 6th 2026 from 3:00-5:00 pm. This will be followed by a celebration of life along with music performed by the Mac Eóin-Ramsay pipe band at Carleton Place Legion starting at 6 pm.
