We are heartbroken to share that Nicolina “Nikki” Gusola (née Zabrieszach) passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5th, surrounded by family, at the age of 91.
Nicolina was born on November 30th, 1934 in Pulfero, Province of Udine, Italy, to Felicitia and Antonio Zabrieszach. Like many from her time, she had a strong work ethic, deep faith, and a lasting commitment to her family. She moved to Canada in 1956 and built a life filled with love and resilience.
On June 2, 1956, Nicolina married Aldo Gusola (by proxy), enjoying 45 years of marriage until his passing in 2001. Together they raised their family and created a loving home where family always came first. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.
She was a devoted mother to Susan (Gib), Dan (Roxanne), Fred (Marie), and Tino (Tara), as well as a caring grandmother to Taylor, Tiffany, Victoria, and Brenan-each one held dearly in her heart.
Nicolina was appreciated for her humor, quiet strength, and unwavering support for those she loved. She enjoyed gardening, cooking delicious meals, visiting with family members, and playing cards. She shared close connections with her extended family and will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews both in Italy and Thunder Bay.
Nicolina is predeceased by her husband Aldo Gusola; her parents Felicitia and Antonio Zabrieszach; her siblings Vilma, Fazio, Ferruccio, Enzo, Pia, Palmira; as well as her granddaughter Lily Gusola.
A service celebrating Nicolina’s life will take place on Thursday February 12th at 11 a. m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel located at 21 N. Court Street with Rev. Luigi Filippini officiating. For those wishing to view the service online can do so through the Sargent & Son Facebook page. The burial will follow at St. Andrew’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society Northwest which would be greatly appreciated. Online condolences can be left at www. sargentandson. com.
