It’s with profound unhappiness that we announce the passing of our expensive buddy, Michael Mostyn, z”l, a dynamic chief, a passionate advocate, and above all, a real mensch. Michael’s life was devoted to tikkun olam—repairing the world—a mission he embraced with each place he held and with each life he touched.

Because the CEO of B’nai Brith Canada since 2014, Michael’s imaginative and prescient and management revitalized the group, remodeling it right into a formidable voice in combating antisemitism and defending the rights of the Jewish neighborhood throughout Canada. His ardour for justice was deeply rooted in Torah values, and no matter he did in life, was undertaken with great respect and unwavering integrity.

Born to a household dedicated to Jewish custom and values, Michael was a staunch defender of Am Yisrael and his religion guided him in every thing he did. His presence was not restricted to boardrooms or podiums; he was equally at residence at synagogue and public occasions, sharing a heat smile and a considerate phrase with associates and neighborhood members alike.

Michael was not solely a dynamic chief and visionary, but in addition a beautiful listener. His capacity to listen to the considerations and wishes of others, mixed together with his savvy abilities as a barrister and public servant, enabled him to impact actual change. Whether or not standing as much as hate or standing up for the weak, Michael embodied the Jewish worth of pursuing justice —“Tzedek, tzedek tirdof.”

Underneath Michael’s management, B’nai Brith’s Annual Audit of Antisemitic Incidents grew to become an important useful resource for addressing hate in Canada, and his advocacy within the courts and with governments strengthened protections for our neighborhood and different marginalized communities. But, regardless of his public accomplishments, those that knew Michael personally will bear in mind his kindness and compassion: the quiet moments when he prolonged a serving to hand, shared phrases of encouragement, or just listened together with his complete coronary heart.

He was awarded many accolades throughout his lifetime, together with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and the King Charles III Coronation Medal, however his distinguished legacy stays within the numerous lives he touched and the world he helped make extra simply and compassionate.

Michael is survived by his loving household, Ella, Benjy, and Bella, who have been his biggest supply of delight and pleasure. He was a beloved and adored son and brother to Sheila and Alan and to Matthew and Sari. To them and their households, he was their large pillar of power, braveness and love. To his associates and colleagues, he was an infinite supply of inspiration. And to the Jewish neighborhood, he was a protector, a defender and a beacon of sunshine.

His B’nai Brith household will miss him dearly and his indomitable spirit will stay in our hearts eternally. We are going to carry the torch with delight and honour in his identify!

Michael Mostyn’s reminiscence will perpetually be a blessing, and his impression will proceed to be felt in so many alternative methods, within the years to come back. Could all of us honour his legacy by emulating his steadfast braveness, unconditional kindness, and dedication to tzedakah and chesed.

Yehi zichro baruch—Could his reminiscence be a blessing.
